Welcome to the Merlins page for Autumn Two.
Welcome to Merlin’s Autumn Two, I hope that you’ve had a restful break. This half-term is busy but definitely fun as we head towards the festive season!
Behaviours for Learning and Life Skills
In Behaviours for Learning, we will be focussing on ‘Getting on, Falling out’ which fits amazingly well into our Life Skills module of learning ‘How can friends communicate safely’ which includes Anti-bullying week.
English
Our texts for this half term are ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ by Rick Riordan, where we will write our own mythical narrative and ‘The Tempest’ by William Shakespeare to write our own playscript. Both are exciting and challenging texts that will have us on the edge of our seats and our writing, electrifying.
Maths
Solid times table knowledge is key this half term as we move onto our ‘Number’ module, where we will be learning multiplication, division and fractions. Lots of times table practice at home is key. Children will be asked to find multiples and factors of numbers and we will introduce them to improper, mixed and equivalent fractions.
Science
In Science we will be looking at materials and their properties, reversible changes and working out which materials keep hot water warmer for longer.
French
In French we will be learning the names of all the planets as we go on an extra celestial space exploration!
Geography
Geography takes us all around the world, looking at all the different mountain ranges and learning how fold mountains are formed. We even put ourselves in Edmund Hilary’s shoes on his ascent of Mount Everest as we plan what supplies we potentially would need to take with us.
History
We will be learning about the Early British Empire, how it came about and key people who played a part in it, as well as key events and how the Empire dealt with resistance from some of the colonies.
P.E.
P.E. This half term will include our lessons will be Football and OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities). OAA involves physical activity, adventure and challenge, problem-solving activities and teamwork. Working with others to solve problems, use different strategies to solve problems, take turns to lead others and be led and learn to differentiate between when a task is competitive and when it is collaborative.
And Football.
R.E.
In R.E. we will be following all the clues and evidence and by the end of the module of learning, be able to answer the question “Is the Christmas Story true?”.
D.T. (Design Technology)
We will be making cam toys in DT this half term. These will be festively themed and lots of fun to make!
